Risky Business: Taking the Risk to Define your Life.

No, I’m not talking about Tom Cruise, but I have to admit that once I wrote the title for this article I couldn’t help but remember that famous scene in the movie where Tom Cruise’s character is home alone, rocking out with his air guitar and sliding across the floor in his underwear.  At the time, that scene was risky business!

What I’m talking about is the risky business of coming out of hiding, and finally taking the risk to define your life as your own, not someone else’s life.   As women we are naturally designed to care for, and nurture our relationships, but what happens when the focus of our life becomes unbalanced and centered on everyone around us, and we no longer keep up with our own emotional or spiritual well-being?
Things change and  life suddenly becomes empty, lacking passion, enthusiasm and joy.  We have become so accustomed to living a safe and comfortable existence that we lose sight of who we really are.   We let others define what our life should be and haven’t taken the risk to find out who we are and what we want.  Most of the time it happens so gradually that we wake up one day and don’t even know how we got there.

Here is one way to jumpstart your life and start to live life fully:

Take time to assess all the key areas of your life:  Work, Money, Living Environment, Personal Growth, Health and Recreation, Community, Family, God.

Then ask yourself these four questions:

1.    What area are you most wanting and willing to make a change in?
2.    What is the current state of this area in your life?
3.    What is missing or not working for you in this area?
4.    What would you like to create in this area?

Once you honestly assess each area of your life, you are ready to acknowledge where you are and identify and seek out the resources you need to help you take the next step forward.  This can be risky business, but moving from merely existing to authentic living is making a conscious choice for freedom.  Freedom to live the life you were divinely created to live, and freedom to love and accept yourself as your heavenly father sees you, beautiful and captivating in His presence.  I promise you, the freedom to receive all you ask or hope for in the name of Jesus is well worth the risk:

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]-- To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). Eph. 3:20-21 (AMP)

Your blog really blessed me today! The past few years have been a rollercoaster and in some ways I have retreated, gone into hibernation. On returning from a holiday to France, I realized I had lost my joy of life, my mojo, my joie de vivre. The only thing that made sense was to write. Paper is patient. I anticipate getting up in the morning and knowing that at the moment I put pen to paper, I feel joy flood my heart. Jesus and I are having heart-to-heart chats and for now I'm enjoying just the alone-time we have together and writing every opportunity I get. Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Dont quit! On the journey, Bianca

Bianca, So glad that you were blessed today. Journal, Journal, and Journal some more. Sometimes the pen will say what the mouth will not speak, so it is an awesome way to connect to your spirit and soul, and really pour your heart out to Jesus. Keep me posted on your journey and your passions. Dream Big! Kristi
